Event Information

All Events are sanctioned by the Canadian Volkssport Federation.

 

START/FINISH TIMES:
Start and finish times vary. Check individual walk information.

REGISTRATION DESK:
Registration points are noted on each event description under "Start Point". Look for "Volksmarch Registration" signs and the IVV/CVF logo on a banner or flag.

REGISTRATION FEES:
For events in Alberta, fees are as follows:

First 5 events: Free
Subsequent events: Free or $2 (check at registration desk)
YRE/Seasonal Fees: Free, $1 or $2 (check information page in walk box)

 

DISTANCE:
Each event is noted as to distance. Distances may vary from Event Calendar information, when the route is finalized. You will receive credit for the actual distance.

ELIGIBILITY:
The events are open to everyone. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The walks are conducted under the rules of the IVV/CVF and participants agree to abide by these rules.

PROCEDURE:
Each participant should be at the Start Point prior to stated Start time. All participants must register due to liability insurance.

EVENT CREDIT:
Persons registered for the event credit will have his/her record books stamped at the finish of the event.

AWARDS:
Awards may be available for certain events.

WEATHER:
All events will be held regardless of weather conditions. During severe weather, alternate options can be made available; please check with the Event Contact Person prior to the walk. Please bring suitable clothing for conditions and, as always, wear comfortable footwear.

REFRESHMENTS:
Refreshments will be available at start/finish and checkpoints. Some events may have food available at nominal cost. You are invited to bring your own food and refreshments, but please do not litter along the routes.

PETS:
Pets are not allowed in some areas. If in doubt, please check with the contact person. If allowed, they must be leashed and cleaned up after. If in an off-leash area, they must be under control so that they do not bother other walkers or members of the general public.

GENERAL:
There is usually ample parking. Campgrounds are available at some locations. Remember all walks are on public or private property — treat them with respect. Many of the communities have planned special events with you in mind. Why not join in?
